Goodness, time has definitely flown. I can’t believe my little boy is seven months! Pretty soon he’ll be crawling and walking and talking and running, and I can’t imagine that happening yet.
Here’s the thing though. I have had older parents tell me that the best age is between 3-4 years old once they have learned to talk and are really curious about the world. Some say that the best age is once they reach one year old and are exploring things.
Personally, I can’t imagine loving and enjoying my baby even more than the current phase he is at. He’s babbling SO much everyday, he’s been working on his crawling skills for the past four weeks (though still not truly mobile yet). He’s rolling around everywhere and he also doesn’t seem to have developed separation anxiety yet. But he is a very happy baby who looks at you very attentively and he is also very generous with his smiles and giggles.
I’m smitten, yes I am.
I think I’ll be a bit sad once he learns how to crawl. Because he’s still in his koala bear mode and he loves to cuddle. This might change a bit once he gains more mobility.
In terms of starting solid foods, I actually had every intention of doing baby-led weaning with him. But he has no interest in food whatsover. I can eat anything at the table with him on my lap and he wouldn’t even reach out for it. We have started with small amounts of purees (small amounts because he’s just not interested in eating). We have tried bananas, which he likes, broccoli, broccoli mixed with bananas (the only one so far that he absolutely loves), rice porridge (he hates this haha), homemade applesauce, butternut squash and carrots.
Typically, he’d press his lips together really tightly, but even if I manage to feed him, he’d swallow no problem and doesn’t seem to mind the food. He’s just not showing interest. The only one he totally rejected and cried with was plain rice porridge, and I don’t blame him for it. It tastes terrible haha.
So yeah. Until he starts to show some interest in food, I’d probably have to put baby-led weaning on hold for a while.
Fahim still nurses very well. He takes in four to five 3.5oz-4oz everyday at daycare depending on how early or late I pick him up, but I haven’t sent any purees for daycare to feed him yet.
As far as sleeping goes, he’s still far from sleeping through the night. He wakes every two to three hours to nurse, and I am in the process of stopping to co-sleep with him. He sleeps either in the swing or his crib. It is pretty hard to get him to sleep in his crib these days because he’d push himself up mid-sleep on all fours and rock back and forth. I think this crawling thing is really getting to him haha. He sleeps much better in the swing where he can’t roll over.
His daytime sleeping schedule is actually pretty terrible. Some days, like today, he just catnaps for half an hour every 3 hours and wants to play. Some days he naps for 45 minutes to 2 hours. He is, however, an early riser and usually wakes up around 7AM no matter what time he goes down.
All this aside, he is an extremely happy, babbling baby. I hope he says his first word soon, but we shall see.
In the meantime, I’m sad to report that my bright lines are black today. Sobs. But I shall start over tomorrow and better prepare myself. Have bought my lettuce, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, asparagus, and a few other greens and veggies.
This story on black lines to come tomorrow, so see you then!
